OUTSTANDING QUALIFICATIONS:
Alexandra Guio is campaigning for Dallas County Criminal Court of Appeals 1, which has jurisdiction over all appeals from criminal convictions that occurred in justice, municipal, and municipal courts of record in Dallas County. This court also operates a highly-successful mental health diversion program that Guio will continue.
Guio has more than a decade of wide-ranging criminal law experience, including service as an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas County and a criminal defense attorney in North Texas. She has significant trial experience and a complete understanding of criminal court operations. Her perspective is balanced, valuing equal justice and fairness for every person, no matter who they are
MENTAL HEALTH DIVERSION EXPERTISE:
Guio gained specialized experience in the Dallas County District Attorney's Mental Health Division, helping individuals work through the Mental Health Pre-Trial Diversion Program. This background will help Guio to continue administering the court's mental health diversion program. Guio understands the importance of mental health diversion to help people who would benefit more from treatment, instead of incarceration.
RECOGNITION & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
Guio was recognized at the United States Supreme Court and awarded the Sandra Day O’Conner Award for Professional Service which honors an American Inn of Court member for exemplifying legal excellence, civility, ethics, and professionalism. In 2019, Guio was recognized by the American Bar Association as the National Outstanding Young Lawyer. In 2018, the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association recognized Guio with the Estrella Award for lighting the path in the legal profession for minorities in the Dallas community.
The first attorney in her family, Guio is a graduate of SMU Dedman School of Law. Guio is active in a number of professional organizations such as the Patrick E. Higgenbotham Inn of Court, the Mexican American Bar Association, and the Dallas Bar Association. Guio enjoys mentoring young lawyers and students entering the profession. Guio is a longtime Democrat who ran for State Representative in the 2022 cycle. She is active in several Democratic clubs and organizations and has worked frequently as a Democratic campaign volunteer.
